The Stamp Pane
To commemorate this series and “The Goal of the Century,” Canada Post issued two stamps with a face value of $0.45 each. One stamp depicts a jubilant Paul Henderson being embraced by one of his teammates and the other a group of players gathering around Henderson in celebration. These outstanding collector stamps are shown in a block of 10 stamps with a very unique cancellation specially designed by Canada Post and Ficel Marketing Corp. In total, this cancellation has been applied to only 15,510 stamp panes and then taken out of circulation. This unique collector stamp pane will continue to increase in value in the months and years to come largely due to the unique cancellation applied.
The Official First Day Cover
Cancelled in Toronto, Canada, has both versions of the actual stamps affixed to it along with a special cancellation design. As well, depicted on the cover is Paul Henderson scoring the famous series winning goal. In the area above the first day cover is a brief explanation of the commemorative stamp and the first day cover. Since this event was a truly historic event in Canadian sports history, the text is shown bilingual in French and English. To truly authenticate this piece, the chairman and president of Canada Post, Mr. Andre Ouellet, has personally signed each print.
The Proof Sterling Silver Dollar
Mounted on this outstanding limited edition print is a commemorative proof sterling silver dollar coin, considered legal tender. The Royal Canadian Mint set the purchasing price of the coin at $29.95. Since then, the coin has experienced a steady increase in its’ collector value. As of March 1998, all coins have been drawn out of circulation, resulting in a more rapid increase in the collector value. Above and below the coin mount in a bilingual text of English and French, is a brief story relating to the sterling silver dollar coin. To authenticate the issue of this magnificent coin, the president of the Royal Canadian Mint, Danielle Wetherup, has personally signed each print.
